Michael Verney’s successful book Amateur Boat Building served as the standard text-book for amateur, and even for some professional, boat builders for ten years. It was replaced by this new book which is larger and a great deal more comprehensive. Not one of the traditional methods has been rejected, but all the latest developments in construction and design have been included. With the aid of this single volume, the average handyman will be able to build himself a very wide variety of boats, including catamarans, cabin cruisers, racing dinghies, canoes, speedboats, punts, ocean racers, launches, fishing craft, or rowing boats of any size between 6ft and 6oft in length. Whether starting one’s first attempt from a kit of parts, or plunging straight into the creation of a dreamship, this book will prevent costly mistakes, eliminate the wastage of precious time, and instil the amateur with confidence. It is fully illustrated with 116 drawings and 35 photographs, and also contains all the tables and data which boat builders need. As well as including full details of all the systems of hull construction, there are chapters dealing with masts, marine engineering, electrical installations, and finishing work, and on how to fit clinker (or lapstrake) planking on a hull - instruction very hard to come by elsewhere.
